Activity

Eugenio Sansosti works on radar signal processing applied to Earth Observation systems for  ground deformation measurements.

Curriculum

Eugenio Sansosti received the Laurea degree Summa cum Laude in 1995 in Electronic Engineering from Università degli Studi di Napoli “Federico II”.

Since 1997 he has been working at (Italian) National Research Council where he holds now a Director of Research position at Istituto per il Rilevamento Elettromagnetico dell’Ambiente (IREA). He was also an Adjunct Professor of Signal Theory at Università degli Studi di Reggio Calabria and of Electric Communication and Signal Theory at Università degli Studi di Cassino, both in Italy.

During 1996 and 1997 he has collaborated with the German Space Agency (DLR) for which he developed an innovative algorithm for geocoding of interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data.

he worked at Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California (U.S.A.) from August 1997 to February 1998 studying dynamic deformations of volcanoes via Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry and again in February 2000 as a member of the Italian team supporting the NASA Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM).

In November 2000 he was an Image Processing Adviser at Istituto Tecnologico de Aeronautica (ITA), Sao José dos Campos, SP, Brasile.

Since 2002 he has been a IEEE Senior Member; he was an organizer and general chairman of 2 international workshops on the Use of Remote Sensing Techniques for Monitoring Volcanoes and Seismogenic Areas (USEReST 2005 e 2008); for the same topic, he was chairman for 2 invited sessions at IGARSS’09 conference in Cape Town.

He is the responsible for several projects, funded by Italian and European Space Agencies, for monitoring of volcanoes through the use of deformation time obtained by using SAR data.

His main research interests are in the Synthetic Aperture Radar signal processing, with particular reference to interferometric mode for measuring surface deformation fields, such as those related to earthquakes, volcanic activity or subsidence.

He is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Geomatics, Natural Hazards and Risk edited by Taylor and Francis.
