From September 1 to 4, 2026, Naples will host ARISA 2026 – International School and Workshop on Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar Imaging, Systems, and Applications, a major international event dedicated to SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) remote sensing. The workshop will take place at Palazzo Pacanowski, a striking venue of Parthenope University located on the Pizzofalcone hill, offering a panoramic view of the Gulf of Naples.
The event is funded and sponsored by the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS), the University of Naples Parthenope, the Institute for Electromagnetic Sensing of the Environment (IREA-CNR), and the University of Naples Federico II. The organizing committee includes Dr Pasquale Imperatore, Senior Researcher at IREA-CNR in Naples.
The school, spanning two days, is designed to provide a comprehensive and in-depth perspective on microwave SAR remote sensing, ranging from electromagnetic modeling and signal formation to advanced imaging techniques, as well as the most innovative concepts and applications of radar systems. It will be followed by a two-day workshop dedicated to scientific exchange among participants, featuring research presentations and discussions on emerging challenges and SAR applications.
ARISA 2026 aims to educate and empower the next generation of scientists and young professionals in the SAR field. The school's faculty will include internationally renowned scientists and leading figures from the local research community, offering participants a highly qualified and multidisciplinary environment.
At the regional level, the event will represent an important opportunity to strengthen the SAR research ecosystem in Italy and Europe, fostering interactions among local institutions, early-career researchers, and international experts, while stimulating new collaborations within the SAR and remote sensing community.
A prize will be awarded for the best scientific presentation. Additionally, a limited number of travel grants are available for participants belonging to IEEE Region 8. Registrations and applications for mobility support must be submitted by June 24, 2026.
