Senior Researcher

Activity

The research activities are in the framework of bioelectromagnetics, and are mainly concerned with:

- design and realization of high voltage, ns electric pulse generators for bioelectrical applications;

- numerical and experimental dosimetry for in vitro exposure systems to RF electromagnetic fields;

- electromagnetic characterization of materials for biomedical applications

- assessment of occupational exposure to static magnetic fields associated to MRI systems;

- indoor and outdoor electromagnetic field measurements

Curriculum

Stefania Romeo received the Laurea degree (summa cum laude) in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Naples Federico II, and the PhD in Electronic Engineering from the Second University of Naples in 2008 and 2012, respectively. As PhD student, from September 2010 to March 2011, she was visiting scholar at the University of Southern California (Los Angeles, CA, USA), Department of Electrical Engineering and Electrophysics, working on biological applications of high voltage, nanosecond electric pulses. In May 2014, she was visiting scientist at the University of Copenhagen (Herlev Hospital) for a short term scientific mission in the framework of the COST Action TD1104 - EP4Bio2Med - European network for development of electroporation-based technologies and treatments (the report of the activities carried out during the STSM is available at the link http://electroporation.net/STSM-reports).In September 2015, in the framework of the 1st World Congress on Electroporation and Pulsed Electric Fields for Biology, Medicine and Food & Environmental Technologies (Portoroz, Slovenia), she received the second prize (Biology and Medicine category) of the Young Investigator Competition dedicated to under 35 young researchers.

From June 2012 to March 14 2016, Stefania Romeo has been with IREA-CNR (Napoli) as Research Fellow, while since March 15 2016 she is temporary Researcher with the same Institute.
The research activity of  Stefania Romeo is in the framework of Bioelectromagnetics, spanning from the design and realization of high voltage, nanosecond pulse generators for in vitro biological applications, to the employment of numerical and experimental dosimetry techniques for cell culture exposures to RF electromagnetic fields, indoor and outdoor measurement of electromagnetic fields levels, and evaluation of occupational exposure to electromagnetic fields in MRI environments.
