Activity
Lorenzo Crocco is a member of the IREA electromagnetic diagnostics team since its establishment in 2001.
In particular, his research interests are mainly concerned with:
- microwave tomographic imaging approaches for ground penetrating radar prospections; - airborne ground penetrating radar; - non invasive diagnostics with holographic radars; - microwave imaging for safety (through the wall imaging, concealed objects detection, demining, bioradar); - imaging approaches for biomedical applications of microwaves (e.g., breast cancer imaging, brain stroke, bone status monitoring); - therapeutic applications of electromagnetic fields (e.g. microwave hyperthermia); - novel paradigms and methods for biomedical and industrial applications triggered by interactions between electromagnetic fields and nanoparticles; - solution methods for forward and inverse electromagnetic scattering problems; - theoretical aspects of non linear inverse problems. |
Curriculum
Lorenzo Crocco is a Research Director at the Institute for the Electromagnetic Sensing of the Environment of the National Research Council of Italy (IREA-CNR), Naples, Italy. In 2000, he obtained his PhD in Applied Electromagnetics from the University of Naples Federico II. From 2001 to 2010, he served as a Researcher at IREA-CNR and subsequently, from 2010 to 2020, as a Senior Researcher at the same Institute. His scientific activities focus on methodologies and applications of direct and inverse electromagnetic scattering problems, with particular emphasis on diagnostic and therapeutic uses of electromagnetic fields, through-the-wall radar, and ground-penetrating radar. He has authored more than 130 scientific publications, delivered keynote talks and lectures, and edited two books on medical applications of electromagnetic technologies. Since 2021, he has been included in the World’s Top 2% Scientists database based on standardized citation indicators. He has served as Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal of Electromagnetics, RF and Microwaves in Medicine and Biology (IEEE J-ERM) and is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Diagnostics (MDPI). Lorenzo Crocco has served as the Italian representative in the Management Committees of COST Actions devoted to medical applications of electromagnetic fields (MiMed on medical microwave imaging and MyWAVE on therapeutic applications of electromagnetic waves). Since 2010, he has been a member of the Scientific Board of the Italian Electromagnetic Society (SIEm), and from 2017 to 2023 he served on its Board of Directors.
