European Lakes Under Environmental Stressors is a research project to be developed in the years 2010-2012 in "Intereg IV" Central Europe Programme. Coordinated by the Lake Garda Community, EULAKES involves 9 partners from environmental agencies, research centers and universities (foursfrom Italy, two from Hungary, two from Austria and one from Poland). The study area includes some great European lakes: Lake Garda in Italy, Lake Balaton in Hungary, Neusiedl in Austria and Poland Charzykowskie. EULAKES is funded for around three million euros 1) to improve the monitoring systems of lakes by integrating satellite observations to in situ measurements; 2) for simulating climate change effects and their impact on vulnerability of water and 3) to define a common strategy management of these precious ecosystems.
EULAKES partners are: APPA Trento (Provincial Agency for Environmental Protection in Trentino), Foundation E. Mach (Institute of S. Michele all'Adige), CNR-IREA, Austrian Institute of Technology, the local government of Burgenland (Department of Water Management), University of Pannonia (Institute of Limnology, Analytical and Environmental Sciences), the agency coordinating the development of Lake Balaton and the Polish Institute of Meteorology and water Management (IMGW).
