Formulation of safety standards, understanding the interaction mechanisms and biomedical applications of electromagnetic fields

The study of cooperative effects between electromagnetic fields and other agents, i.e. evaluating the effects of combined exposures to electromagnetic field and chemical or physical agents, including environmental pollutants, offers a variety of applications. First,  it allows to investigate the possibility that electromagnetic field exposure could contribute in cancer promotion by enhancing the effects of toxic agents.  Second, by analyzing the behavior of chemicals with well known action mechanism in the presence of the fields, could provide information on the interaction mechanisms of low level electromagnetic fields. Finally, if electromagnetic field exposure will be demonstrated to enhance the effectiveness of certain, or reduce the effects of other treatments, a foundation for new beneficial applications in biomedical field will be provided.
