Multidisciplinary Study of the Preparation Phase of an Earthquake

The project aims at defining a set of instruments to govern the emergency generated by an earthquake through the identification, study and characterization of the physical processes taking place during the preparation of an earthquake. To achieve this task, we will use the most advanced technology nowadays available for the observation of geophysical phenomena, developing solutions and alternative approaches. In this context, the operational unit of the IREA-CNR will deal with the generation of maps and time-series of ground deformation in the C and X bands, and with the subsequent modeling of the stress sources that are involved in the preparatory stages of an earthquake by taking advantage of a network GPS and Corner Reflector positioned in the Upper Tiber and Abruzzo regions.
