Attività

L'attività di ricerca di Francesco Casu riguarda lo sviluppo di algoritmi per l'elaborazione dei dati Radar ad Apertura Sintetica (SAR), con particolare riferimento all'Interferometria Differenziale SAR (DInSAR) ed alla tecnica Small BAseline Subset (SBAS).

Francesco Casu si è laureato con lode in Ingegneria Elettronica presso l'Università degli studi di Cagliari (Cagliari) nell'aprile del 2003 ed ha conseguito, presso la stessa università, il titolo di Dottore di Ricerca in Ingegneria Elettronica ed Informatica nel febbraio 2009. Dal 2003 svolge attività di ricerca presso l’IREA-CNR di Napoli dove ricopre il ruolo di Ricercatore a tempo indeterminato.

E' stato Visiting Scientist presso l'University of Texas at Austin (2004), il Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena (2005), e il Department of Geophysics presso la Stanford University (2009). I suoi principali interessi di ricerca riguardano l’InSAR, l'interferometria SAR multipassaggio, la tecnica SBAS e gli algoritmi di Pixel Offset. Attualmente si occupa dello sviluppo di tecniche InSAR avanzate per lo sfruttamento di risorse di calcolo ad alte prestazioni (HPC e Cloud Computing), al fine di ridurre i tempi di esecuzione della catena SBAS e gestire grosse moli di dati SAR. Dal 2014 è responsabile scientifico della convenzione fra IREA e Dipartimento della Protezione Civile.
